Tom Blenkinsop, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, today (7th December) took part in the unveiling of a plaque at Guisborough Swimming Pool dedicated to his predecessor, the late Dr Ashok Kumar MP.
“It was an honour to be at this unveiling and to be given the opportunity to say a few words about the work and campaigns Ashok was involved in to secure the future of the pool, along with ‘Friends of Guisborough Swimming Pool’. Not many politicians will find themselves on a plaque that says “in Grateful and Affectionate memory” so it is a testament to the type of man Ashok was.”
Guisborough Labour councillor, Joe Keenan, added:
“As someone who fought hard alongside Ashok in 2007 to save the pool today is quite emotional. The recognition he has received from the local community and the Friends of Guisborough Pool acknowledges the role he played in this community to help fight to maintain public services. As local councillors we will do well to carry on his work.”
