Commenting on reports that parts of James Cook University Hospital could be cordoned off to make way for private services Tom Blenkinsop, Labour MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, today (10th August 2012) described the news as his ‘worst fears for the NHS coming true’.
“Throughout the entire debacle of Lansley’s NHS reorganisation the Tories have insisted that privatisation would not be happening. This news is clear evidence that that isn’t the case and now they are not even trying to hide it anymore.
“I’ve raised concerns about services from community hospitals in my constituency being lost to James Cook previously and this would only get worse once the motivation to make a profit becomes involved.
“I will be keeping a close eye on how this develops but I am pleased that Andy Burnham, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister, has committed to repealing the Health and Social Care Act if Labour was to return to power.”
